The Beech Tree House Story

Beech Tree House Center for Child Development was founded by Lynda Haywood in 1978 to serve children, their families, and our community.  A mother of six and pediatric nurse by profession, Lynda blended her expertise in child development with her intuitive warmth for the entire family.  Lynda’s genuine love of children and firm belief in providing stimulating early childhood experiences inspired the unique philosophy practiced at Beech Tree House today.  Though the center has expanded its programs over the years to include infant and toddler care, preschool, and a state accredited elementary school program; it has remained family owned and operated.  The center is now managed by Lynda’s granddaughter, Samantha Bigelow, and an outstanding team of directors, teachers, and support staff.

Our Mission

It is the mission of Beech Tree House Center for Child Development to provide loving, joyful, stimulating, and enthusiastic programs that celebrate children and families.  The experiences children enjoy at Beech Tree House Center for Child Development encourage and support their emotional, social, intellectual, physical, and spiritual development.  Our child care and teaching personnel join with parents to nurture each child’s potential as a loving, kind, honest, responsible, respectful, curious, productive, healthy and faithful members of society.  We strive to provide impeccable infant and toddler care, an exceptional pre-school experience, and an elementary curriculum that develops the advanced study skills necessary to excel in extraordinary learning environments and everyday life.

Our Curriculum

The curriculum at Beech Tree House Center for Child Development supports the emotional, social, intellectual, physical, and spiritual development of each child.  Created by our administration and a team of master teachers, the curriculum provides academically ambitious yet developmentally appropriate activities in the core areas of language arts, math, science, health, social studies, and Biblically based non-denominational Christian religious education.  Because of its appeal to various learning styles, our teachers follow the Ausubelian method of organizing curriculum in our toddler and pre-school classrooms.  This engaging process incorporates a variety of lessons, activities, games, crafts, projects, and experiments that help develop proficiencies in a specific theme, skill, or concept.  Children enjoy music, art, drama, and values education naturally embedded into the Beech Tree House experience.  Open areas are provided in our spacious backyard and indoor atrium for large motor skill development and rambunctious play.  We extend learning experiences as we welcome guest speakers and performers in addition to off-site field trip adventures.

Our Logo

The Beech Tree House Center for Child Development logo tree displays nine leaf bunches representing each of the characteristics of the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22,23) – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.  Our mission and philosophy encourage the development of these qualities through our curriculum, behavior standards, and special service projects.  The “LH” displayed in the heart on the tree trunk is in recognition of loving gratitude to our founder, Lynda Haywood.
